NASCAR’s THREE (3) LARGEST RACING SERIES

1. NASCAR SPRINT CUP SERIES

The Sprint Cup Series is the NASCAR’s top racing series . Its former names were “Strictly Stock Series” in the year 1949, later change to “Grand National Series” from 1950 to 1970, in the year 1971 to 2003 it was change to “Winston Cup Series”, beginning 2004 until last year it was known as “NEXTEL Cup Series”. This year (2008) it was change again to another name – SPRINT CUP SERIES.

2. NASCAR NATIONWIDE SERIES

NATIONWIDE SERIES is a stock car racing or automobile car racing next to Sprint Cup which is owned and operated by NASCAR as well. They called it “Minor League” because this is consider as stepping stones for car racing drivers to go to the SPRINT CUP series. Like Sprint Cup series, Nationwide series has a different name before. It was called NASCAR Busch Series last year.

3. TRUCK SERIES

NASCAR Truck Series was founded in the year 1995 and is the only series to race pickup trucks or to demonstrate it is light motor vehicle with an open-top rear cargo area. It was called CRAFTSMEN TRUCK series until last year because it was sponsored by Craftsman but what news said Craftsman will no longer be the title sponsor of this car racing series.

NASCAR POINT/SCORING SYSTEM

* 195 PTS = maximum points that will be recieved per race
* + 5 PTS = for any driver who leads a lap during a race.
* + 5 PTS = for the driver who leads the most laps

NASCAR which is 2nd in terms of sports popularity, next to National Football League (NFL) is supported by Fortune 500 companies.
